Fattoria Il Casalone is a roughly 300-hectare coastal estate in Tuscany's Maremma, situated between the Ansedonia promontory and the town of Orbetello, with views over the lagoon and Monte Argentario. Vines were first planted here in the early 1960s by the father of current owner Giuseppe Lignana, and the estate — trading as Pepi Lignana Fattoria Il Casalone — was among the first in the area to experiment with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Viognier alongside native Vermentino and Sangiovese. About 20 of its hectares are dedicated to quality winegrowing, with roughly 8 hectares planted to Vermentino. Its flagship white, Leopoldino, is an 85% Vermentino / 15% Viognier blend named after the historic 'Catasto Leopoldino' land register that first documented the estate's Colombi vineyard; the 2024 vintage was named to the Top Ten of the Consorzio Tutela Vini della Maremma Toscana's Vermentino Grand Prix, presented at Vinitaly. The estate also raises free-ranging Maremmana cattle and produces olive oil and honey, and welcomes guests through its on-site agriturismo.
