Fabrizio Dionisio
ファブリツィオ・ディオニージョ
A father-and-son Cortona estate devoted entirely to artisanal Syrah.
Fabrizio Dionisio is a boutique winery in Cortona, in the province of Arezzo, Tuscany. The estate was founded in the early 1970s by Fabrizio's father, Sergio Dionisio, at the Il Castagno property overlooking Cortona; a second estate, Poggio del Sole, was added in 1992, bringing the total to roughly 15 hectares across two sites about 5km apart. From 2000 the old vineyards were gradually uprooted and replanted with an exclusive focus on Syrah, and since 2003 Fabrizio Dionisio has produced small-batch, artisanal wines that express the Cortona terroir, long considered one of Italy's finest sites for the variety. The flagship wine, Il Castagno, is a 100% Syrah made from very low-yield, hand-picked fruit and aged around 15 months in oak; the estate also produces the fresher Castagnino Syrah, the rosé/ancestral-method Cuculaia, and a Viognier white, all under Cortona DOC.
