Organic Rieslings reviving the Rheingau's steepest historic slate vineyards.
About Eva Fricke
Eva Fricke is one of the most celebrated new-generation winemakers in Germany's Rheingau, based in Eltville. Originally from Bremen and raised outside a winemaking family, she trained at Geisenheim University and gained international experience in Bordeaux, Piedmont, Ribera del Duero and Australia before becoming technical director at the renowned Weingut Josef Leitz. She began producing her own wine from a rented 0.2-hectare parcel in 2006 and founded her independent estate in 2011, specializing in reviving steep, historic single-vineyard sites in Lorch and around Eltville that other producers had abandoned as too difficult to farm. Certified organic since 2016 and largely vegan since 2015, her hand-worked vineyards climb the slate slopes of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Fermentation relies on native yeasts with minimal cellar intervention, yielding Rieslings prized for their purity, vibrant acidity and precise mineral expression. Her rapid rise has been recognized with Falstaff's Newcomer of the Year (2013), Stuart Pigott's 'Riesling Heroine' title (2016), and in 2020 she became the first Rheingau estate ever to earn three 100-point scores from major critics.
