Domaine Wischlen is a small, family-run estate of about five hectares in the village of Westhalten, in Alsace's Haut-Rhin department. The domain was founded by the grandfather of François Wischlen, who has run it since 1981 under the name SCEA Wischlen (based at 4 Rue de Soultzmatt). The estate grows the classic Alsatian range — Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Noir and Sylvaner — and is particularly known for wines from the Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru, a steep, south-facing hillside above Westhalten with a warm, dry, near-Mediterranean microclimate and calcareous-sandstone soils. Its Zinnkoepflé Tokay-Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer have been noted in the Guide Hachette des Vins. Beyond winemaking, François Wischlen also hosts an annual 6 km walk through the vineyards to introduce visitors to the local grape varieties, flora and regional food pairings.
