Nakafurano Rouge is a red blend of Zweigelt and Pinot Noir from Domaine Raison's own vineyards in Nakafurano, Hokkaido. The 2021 vintage shows the light-bodied, fresh-acid character typical of Hokkaido reds; per the winery, it still carries some youthful tannin and is expected to gain depth with roughly a year of bottle aging. It should not be confused with Merimero Rouge, the producer's blend of Muscat Bailey A and Yamabudou.

Sommelier's Note

A true expression of Hokkaido's cool climate in red wine form — light, fresh, and built to soften with a year or so in bottle.

New to wine?

An approachable, light-bodied Hokkaido red — a gentle entry point for those new to Japanese red wine.

Food Pairings

The winery recommends pairing with meat dishes, especially spare ribs and yakiniku (Japanese grilled meat). Its light body also suits other savory grilled or simmered meat dishes.

When to drink it

Casual dinners centered on grilled or roasted meat, such as a yakiniku or BBQ gathering.

Terroir & Winemaking

2021 vintage. A blend of Zweigelt and Pinot Noir grown at Domaine Raison's own Nakafurano vineyard. Light-bodied with still-present tannin at release; the winery suggests further bottle aging of about a year to soften and develop the wine.
