Located in Pfaffenheim, Alsace, Domaine Pierre Frick is a pioneering estate in the natural and biodynamic wine movement, run by the Frick family for twelve generations. Jean-Pierre Frick converted the 12-hectare estate to organic farming in 1970 and to biodynamic viticulture in 1981, receiving Demeter certification in 1986 — making it one of the very first officially recognized biodynamic domaines in France. Since 1999 the estate has pioneered sulfur-free (sans soufre) winemaking, fermenting with indigenous yeasts and aging in century-old 30-hectoliter Alsatian oak foudres, without chaptalization or acidification. The result is vibrant, mineral, terroir-driven wines across a range of some 25 cuvées (Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir) that are considered benchmarks of the natural wine movement.
