Domaine Ostertag
ドメーヌ・オステルタグ
Alsace's biodynamic pioneer, redefining the region toward precision and dryness.
Founded in 1966 by Adolphe and Irma Ostertag in Epfig, Alsace, Domaine Ostertag became one of the region's most influential estates under André Ostertag, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture (Demeter-certified since 1997) who reintroduced Burgundian winemaking discipline — low yields, precise terroir selection, and a firmly dry style — into Alsace at a time when residual sugar was the norm. The estate farms roughly 13-15 hectares across about 75-100 small plots in five villages (Epfig, Nothalten, Ribeauvillé), including the Fronholz and Pflanzer lieux-dits and the Muenchberg, Heissenberg, and Zellberg Grand Cru sites. André structured the range into three conceptual tiers — Vins de Fruit (fruit-driven, everyday wines), Vins de Pierre (terroir-expressive single-vineyard wines), and Vin de Temps (late-harvest wines shaped by time and weather). Arthur Ostertag, André's son, joined the domaine in 2015 after studying viticulture in Beaune and a stage at Domaine des Comtes Lafon, co-vinified alongside his father, and has been sole winemaker since the 2018 vintage, continuing biodynamic farming, indigenous-yeast fermentation, and long élevage while pursuing an even more intuitive, sensory-led approach in the vineyard.
