Domaine Mochel-Lorentz is an independent, family-run wine estate in Traenheim on the Alsace Wine Route, roughly 25 km west of Strasbourg. The Lorentz family has cultivated vines here since 1634, passing the domaine from father to son for generations; current owner Philippe Lorentz took over the estate in 1980. The domaine, registered as SCEA Mochel Lorentz, farms around 15 hectares, including parcels in the Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergbieten, prized for marl-limestone soils well suited to Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Since August 2020 the estate has been converting to organic viticulture, with vintages from 2023 certified organic (Ocacia FR-BIO-20) and holding High Environmental Value (HVE) status. The range spans all seven traditional Alsace grape varieties, Crémant d'Alsace, Grand Cru wines, and late-harvest (Vendanges Tardives) and noble-rot selections. Visitors are welcomed year-round for tastings and tours of a traditional cellar that still holds oak barrels from the early 1900s. Note: Domaine Mochel-Lorentz is a distinct, separately owned estate from the nearby Domaine Frédéric Mochel, also based in Traenheim.
