Domaine Meyer-Fonné
ドメーヌ・メイエ・フォンネ
Guide Hachette's 2022 Alsace Winemaker of the Year, precise and terroir-pure.
Domaine Meyer-Fonné is a family estate in the village of Katzenthal, Alsace, whose roots trace back to 1732 when a Swiss ancestor named Félix Meyer settled in the village. The domaine as known today was built by the current Félix Meyer, who returned in 1992 after gaining experience in Rouffach, Mâcon, Paris, Oregon, and Australia. He now farms roughly 18-20 hectares spread across seven communes (Katzenthal, Ammerschwihr, Ingersheim, Riquewihr, Kientzheim, Colmar, and Bennwihr), including parcels in five Grand Crus: Wineck-Schlossberg, Kaefferkopf, Furstentum, Sporen, and Schoenenbourg. Farming is low-intervention and meticulous, with ploughed soils, minimal treatments, and hand harvesting; in the cellar, wines are raised on fine lees in large old foudres alongside some stainless steel, and Meyer is especially known for his skill in blending parcels into layered, precise cuvées. The range spans dry, mineral Rieslings to richer Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer, all marked by vibrant acidity and aging potential. Félix Meyer was voted Winemaker of the Year for Alsace by the Guide Hachette des Vins in 2022, and the estate is a flagship Alsace producer in the Kermit Lynch portfolio.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the signature style of Domaine Meyer-Fonné?
- Precision and purity: dry, terroir-driven wines with vibrant acidity, built from meticulous parcel selection and skillful blending rather than residual sweetness.
- Does Domaine Meyer-Fonné farm organically or biodynamically?
- The estate is not formally certified organic or biodynamic, but Félix Meyer farms with a strongly low-intervention approach: ploughed soils, minimal treatments, deliberately low yields, and hand harvesting across all parcels.
- Which Grand Crus does Domaine Meyer-Fonné work with?
- The domaine holds parcels in five Grand Crus: Wineck-Schlossberg and Sporen (Riesling and Gewurztraminer), Kaefferkopf (Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer), Furstentum (Gewurztraminer), and Schoenenbourg (Riesling).
- Are Meyer-Fonné wines age-worthy?
- Yes. The Grand Cru bottlings in particular can develop remarkable complexity over 5 to 15 years thanks to their structure and acidity.
- Do Meyer-Fonné wines pair well with Japanese cuisine?
- Very well — the dry Rieslings' bright acidity and minerality make them excellent partners for sushi, sashimi, and tempura, while the richer Pinot Gris suits grilled or simmered dishes with a touch of sweetness.
