Domaine Kayagatake is a small, family-run winery on the southern slopes of Mt. Kayagatake in Nirasaki City, in the western foothills of Yamanashi Prefecture. Winemaker Masahiko Abe took over his family's table-grape farm and, after graduate studies in wine science at the University of Yamanashi, released the winery's first vintage in 2015. The estate grows Muscat Bailey A and Koshu for wine alongside Kyoho, Pione and Shine Muscat table grapes, handling everything from grape growing to bottling on site. Its flagship red and white, both labeled 'Adagio di Uenoyama,' have won multiple gold medals at the Japan Wine Competition, and the winery moved in 2017 to a new tasting room with panoramic views of Mt. Fuji and Mt. Yatsugatake.
