Domaine Joseph Gross is a family-run estate in Wolxheim, a small wine village on the Alsace wine route about 20km west of Strasbourg. Joseph Gross took over the family's vines in 1974 — until then the grapes had been sold entirely to the local cooperative — and began estate-bottling and selling the wines directly. His wife Christine joined him in 1980, and together they built the domaine that today markets nearly all of its production in bottle. The estate farms two distinctive terroirs: the limestone-marl Grand Cru Altenberg de Wolxheim, prized for Riesling and Gewurztraminer of great aromatic complexity and ageing potential, and the Lieu-dit Rothstein, known for more subtle, elegant wines. The range also includes a full line of Crémant d'Alsace (Tradition, Chardonnay, and the Pinot Noir-based rosé Cuvée Catherine). Harvesting is done by hand, combining traditional Alsatian methods with modern winemaking technique, and the domaine has been certified organic since 2022.
