Domaine Jean-Paul Eckle (also trading as Eckle Jean-Paul et Fils) is a family-run winery in Katzenthal, one of Alsace's classic wine villages nestled below the medieval Wineck tower, about 5 km from Colmar. The Eckle family has grown grapes on this site since 1870, when Joseph Eckle first worked roughly one hectare by hand; the estate grew steadily under Jean-Paul Eckle, who began estate bottling in the early 1960s and expanded the vineyard to about 9 hectares. Today the domaine farms around 9.5 hectares in Katzenthal, run by Emmanuel and Christine Eckle, with their daughter Emma joining the estate since 2020. Grapes are hand-harvested in the morning dew and pressed gently, with vinification split between traditional Alsatian oak casks and stainless steel depending on grape variety and vintage, and a stated focus on reducing inputs and respecting the vineyard's natural balance. The estate's flagship holding is in the Grand Cru Wineck-Schlossberg, a steep, granite-soiled amphitheater vineyard above the village that gives Riesling and Gewurztraminer exceptional minerality and precision (recognized with multiple 'coups de coeur' in the Guide Hachette des Vins).
