Domaine Jean-Marie Haag is a family-run independent estate in Soultzmatt, in Alsace's Vallée Noble, about 20 km south of Colmar. Jean-Marie Haag, together with his wife Myriam, has run the domaine since 1988, continuing a family winegrowing tradition that began with his grandfather, a potash miner who tended a small vineyard plot on Sundays. The estate's vines climb the steep, south-facing slopes of the Zinnkoepflé — whose name means 'head turned to the sun' — on a terroir of Triassic-era shelled limestone (Muschelkalk) at altitudes up to 424 metres, sheltered from rain by the high Vosges and warmed by an unusually dry, sun-drenched microclimate. Certified Terra Vitis and Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) for sustainable viticulture, the domaine hand-harvests parcel by parcel over roughly a month to capture optimal ripeness, producing concentrated, well-balanced wines across the full range of Alsatian grape varieties — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir, Sylvaner and Muscat — plus Crémant d'Alsace, Edelzwicker blends and prized Vendanges Tardives late-harvest cuvées. The domaine's Zinnkoepflé Grand Cru Rieslings and Gewurztraminers, including the Cuvée Marion, have been repeatedly recognised by the Guide Hachette des Vins.
