Located in Scherwiller at the foot of the ruined Château de l'Ortenbourg, Domaine Frey-Sohler is a family estate spanning 29 hectares, formed from the union of two long-established winegrowing families: the Freys, settled in Scherwiller since 1702, and the Sohlers, growers from nearby Itterswiller since 1790. Now guided by the fifth and sixth generations, the estate farms parcels within the Scherwiller communal appellation, the Rittersberg hillside, and the Grand Cru Frankstein, producing the full range of Alsace varieties — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Sylvaner, Crémant d'Alsace, and late-harvest specialities (Vendanges Tardives, Sélections de Grains Nobles). Certified Terra Vitis and HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale), the domaine has grassed alternating vine rows with clover since 1982 to nurture soil life, and its Crémant d'Alsace Riesling has repeatedly earned a 3-star "Coup de Coeur" in the Guide Hachette.
