Domaine Charles Baur is a family estate in the historic wine town of Eguisheim, Alsace, whose Baur family has cultivated vines there since the 18th century. Charles Baur began estate-bottling the family's wines in 1948; his son Armand (with wife Brigitte Goepfert) expanded the domaine in the 1980s, and Armand's son Arnaud — an agricultural engineer trained in oenology and viticulture at Toulouse, with stages in Tokaj, California and Bordeaux — took over in 2010. Arnaud began converting the estate's 17 hectares to organic viticulture in 2011 and achieved certification in 2014. The domaine farms parcels in three Grand Cru vineyards — Brand, Eichberg and Pfersigberg — alongside village-level Eguisheim sites, hand-harvesting whole clusters and using long, gentle pressings to let the mosaic of granite, sand and limestone soils speak through wines ranging from mineral, dry Riesling to opulent Gewürztraminer and smoky Pinot Gris.
