Claudio Alario
クラウディオ・アラーリオ
Third-generation Diano d'Alba estate crafting three single-vineyard Dolcetto and two cru Barolo.
Claudio Alario is a family-run estate in Diano d'Alba, Piedmont, now in its third generation: Claudio's grandfather once sold grapes to other producers before Claudio, trained as an agronomist, converted the family's fields into an estate winery in 1988. The house built its reputation on three single-vineyard Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba (Montagrillo, Costa di Fiore and Pradurent), alongside Barbera and Nebbiolo, and released its first Barolo — Riva Rocca, from a cru in Verduno — in 1995, later followed by a second cru, Sorano, farmed in Serralunga d'Alba. Across roughly 12 hectares and about 45,000 bottles a year, the guiding philosophy is that great wine is born in the vineyard: low yields, careful hand harvesting and meticulous, transparent cellar work bring out the distinct character of each site.
