Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Château Haut-Garriga's white wine distinctive in Entre-Deux-Mers?
The estate blends 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Sémillon, and 10% Muscadelle, sourcing each variety from soils best suited to them — Muscadelle and Sémillon thrive in clay-rich soils near the Dordogne, while Sauvignon Blanc is planted in cooler plots for maximum aromatic lift. The result is a vibrant white with citrus, grapefruit, and subtle floral notes.
How long has the Barreau family been making wine?
The Barreau family has been farming in the Entre-Deux-Mers since 1782. In the 1980s, the fifth generation began bottling and exporting wines directly; today, sixth-generation Maxime Barreau leads the estate, carrying on more than 30 years of export experience across Europe.
Is Château Haut-Garriga wine good for aging?
Château Haut-Garriga whites are crafted for early drinking, designed to showcase their vibrant fruit and crisp acidity within one to three years of harvest. The reds can reward short-term cellaring of two to five years.
What food pairings work best with the Entre-Deux-Mers blanc?
Fresh oysters, mussels, grilled fish, ceviche, and goat's cheese are classic matches. The wine's lively acidity and citrus freshness make it equally enjoyable as an aperitif on its own.
Does the estate produce wines other than white?
Yes. The portfolio spans a 100% Merlot Bordeaux rouge, a dry rosé, and a sparkling wine — all under the Château Haut-Garriga or Château Coutreau labels — making it one of the most versatile family estates in Entre-Deux-Mers.
