Côte des Bar natural-leaning grower behind Bulles de Comptoir

About Charles Dufour

Charles Dufour is a grower-producer (RM) based in Landreville in the Côte des Bar, Aube, Champagne. He took over the family estate in 2010 and works mainly with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc on clay-limestone soils. Farming is organic and biodynamic-minded, without pesticides or chemical weedkillers; fermentations rely on indigenous yeasts and the wines are neither fined nor filtered. He is best known for Bulles de Comptoir, a numbered non-vintage series built on a perpetual reserve (solera), released at very low or zero dosage with a different artist-designed label each time. It became a house pour at Noma in Copenhagen, and he is often nicknamed the 'Selosse of the Aube'. He also works with grapes from his mother Françoise Martinot's vines.
