Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto

バローロ・デル・コムーネ・ディ・カスティリオーネ・ファレット

Cascina Fontana

Nebbiolo

About this wine

This commune-designated Barolo is produced exclusively from Cascina Fontana's holdings within Castiglione Falletto: 1.2 hectares in the Valletti cru and 0.6 hectares in the Villero cru. Made only in exceptional vintages, it is a more concentrated, terroir-focused expression than the estate's standard Barolo, which also includes fruit from La Morra. Each parcel is vinified separately before blending, showing the structural precision and elegance typical of Castiglione Falletto.

Beginner's Note

More concentrated than the estate's standard Barolo — best approached with a few years of bottle age and a long decant.

Sommelier's Note

"A precise, single-commune statement from a producer who could easily bottle single-vineyard Barolo but chooses tradition — this is as close to a cru expression as Cascina Fontana gets."

Food Pairings

Excellent with roasted game, truffle dishes, and aged cheeses. In a Japanese context, try it with soy-glazed wagyu sukiyaki or grilled eel (unagi).

When to drink it

Milestone celebrations, formal dinners, or a serious collector's tasting.

Terroir & Winemaking

Sourced from 1.2 hectares in the Valletti cru and 0.6 hectares in the Villero cru, both within Castiglione Falletto. Each parcel is fermented separately in stainless steel, then blended and aged approximately 2 years in large Slavonian oak botti. Produced only in the best vintages; bottled unfiltered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from Cascina Fontana's regular Barolo?
It is sourced only from the Valletti and Villero crus within Castiglione Falletto, while the standard Barolo also includes fruit from Gallinotto in La Morra.
Is this a single-vineyard wine?
No — it blends two crus (Valletti and Villero) within the same commune. The producer chooses not to bottle single-vineyard wines, following traditional Barolo practice.
Is it made every year?
No, it is produced only in exceptional vintages when the fruit from these parcels meets the estate's standards.
