Fattoria Casaloste is a family-run estate on the hills of Panzano in Chianti, one of Chianti Classico's most celebrated crus. Founded in 1992 when agronomist and oenologist Giovanni Battista d'Orsi and his wife Emilia bought the property, Casaloste became the first certified organic winery in Panzano in 1994 and remains an active member of the Unione Viticoltori di Panzano. The estate spans roughly 19 hectares, with about 10.5 hectares under vine and 2 hectares of olive groves, and is energetically self-sufficient thanks to its own solar panels. Casaloste produces around 60,000 bottles a year across all three Chianti Classico tiers — Annata, Riserva, and Gran Selezione — plus IGT bottlings such as Don Vincenzo, a 100% Sangiovese aged 18 months in French oak. The estate's guiding philosophy, 'Essere piccoli per fare grandi vini' ('Be small to make great wines'), reflects its focus on meticulous, small-scale vineyard work — careful canopy management, selective harvesting, and hands-on attention to every parcel. The property takes its name from a 13th-century tower that once served as a military outpost and customs post.
