Grüner Veltliner

About this wine

Ried Lamm sits on the south-eastern slope toe of the Heiligenstein hill in Kammern — one of the warmest sites in Kamptal, with soils of chalky clay, loess, and siltstone. Bründlmayer ferments the wine in 300-liter Austrian oak and small new acacia barrels, then ages it in larger oak and acacia casks. The result abandons the lightness typical of Grüner Veltliner in favor of a monumental style: deep, intense, and layered, with lemony, herbal, stony, and saline notes on the nose, pristine acidity, and a smooth, fluid, richly textured palate. Widely regarded as one of Austria's greatest white wines.

Beginner's Note

Not your typical light Grüner Veltliner — this is a rich, structured, food-worthy white for those ready to explore the grape's serious side.

Sommelier's Note

"If you think you know what Grüner Veltliner tastes like, Ried Lamm will change your mind — this is the grape at its most powerful and profound."

Food Pairings

Pairs beautifully with roasted white meats, lobster, and rich cream sauces; its weight and spice also stand up well to grilled unagi or miso-glazed black cod.

When to drink it

Fine dining, celebratory dinners, and pairing with substantial main courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Ried Lamm considered special among Grüner Veltliners?
Its warm site and chalky clay-loess-siltstone soils produce an unusually rich, dense, and age-worthy style, far removed from the light, peppery Grüner Veltliner most people know.
What does Ried Lamm taste like?
Deep and intense, with lemony, herbal, stony, and saline notes, pristine acidity, and a smooth, textured palate that carries real weight.
Is this wine oaked?
Yes — it is fermented in 300L Austrian oak and new acacia barrels, then aged in larger oak and acacia casks, which adds subtle richness without overt oak flavor.
