Bollinger La Grande Année Rosé

About this wine

La Grande Année Rosé is the rosé expression of Bollinger's vintage prestige cuvée, made only in the same exceptional years as La Grande Année. Roughly 62-67% Pinot Noir and 33-38% Chardonnay from around 19 Grand and Premier Cru crus (mainly Verzenay, Aÿ, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Chouilly, and Cuis) form the base, fermented entirely in old oak barrels. A distinctive addition of about 5% still red wine from the Côte aux Enfants plot in Aÿ gives it its red-fruited character and pale, coppery-pink hue. Madame Bollinger was long reluctant to make a rosé at all, which is why this bottling was reserved for only the finest vintages and marked with the vintage seal from the start.

Beginner's Note

One of the most serious rosé Champagnes made — approach it as a food wine for a special dinner, not a casual celebratory pour.

Sommelier's Note

"This is what happens when a house famous for resisting rosé finally commits to one — every vintage is treated with the same rigor as their finest Brut, and it shows."

Food Pairings

A gastronomic, prestige rosé built for game, foie gras, and dishes with red-berry accents. Its tannin and elegant bitterness on the finish stand up to rich, flavorful dishes rather than light aperitif fare.

When to drink it

Milestone anniversaries, gastronomic dinners, and gifts for collectors.

Terroir & Winemaking

Blend of roughly 62-67% Pinot Noir and 33-38% Chardonnay from about 19 Grand/Premier Cru crus, with approximately 5% still red wine from the Côte aux Enfants plot in Aÿ. Fermented entirely in old oak barrels, aged on lees under cork, hand-riddled and hand-disgorged bottle by bottle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is La Grande Année Rosé different from La Grande Année Brut?
It uses the same vintage base but adds about 5% still red wine from the Côte aux Enfants plot in Aÿ, giving it a pale copper-pink color and distinctive red-fruit character.
Why did Bollinger take so long to make a rosé Champagne?
Madame Lily Bollinger was long reluctant to produce a rosé; when the house finally committed, it reserved the practice for its top vintage cuvée and gave it the vintage seal from the outset.
What food pairs well with La Grande Année Rosé?
Game, foie gras, and dishes with red-berry sauces suit its structure; in Japanese cuisine, red-wine-braised duck or beef and fig-based starters work well.
Is it made every year?
No — like La Grande Année, it is only produced in years the house declares as exceptional vintages.
