Germany's benchmark Spätburgunder, VDP member since 1995.

About Bernhard Huber

Weingut Bernhard Huber, based in Malterdingen in the Breisgau district of Baden, is Germany's benchmark producer for Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir). Bernhard Huber (1959–2014) built the estate from a small cooperative-grape family holding into roughly 35 hectares of vines planted on rare Muschelkalk (shell-limestone) soils, becoming a VDP member in 1995. His Burgundy-inspired approach — low yields, whole-cluster fermentation, barrique aging — earned Gault Millau's 'Winzer des Jahres' (Winemaker of the Year) in 2008 and international recognition as the estate that proved German Pinot Noir could rival Burgundy. Since his death in 2014, his son Julian Huber and wife Barbara Huber have continued the estate's style, crafting age-worthy Spätburgunder from the VDP.Grosse Lage sites Bienenberg (including its historic Wildenstein parcel), Sommerhalde, Schlossberg, and Alte Burg, alongside acclaimed Chardonnay and Weißburgunder.
