Cool-climate estate wines grown on the shores of the Bot River Lagoon

About Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is a 200-hectare wine and lifestyle estate poised on the edge of the Bot River Lagoon, just outside Hermanus in South Africa's Walker Bay wine region. Founded by entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE, who acquired the historic property (dating back to a mid-1700s Dutch colonial loan farm) in 2013, the estate built a state-of-the-art 450-ton gravity-fed cellar that received its maiden harvest in 2017. With 70 hectares under vine on the longest ocean-facing vineyard frontage in the region, cool maritime winds off the Atlantic and the lagoon slow ripening and preserve freshness in 100% estate-grown wines led by cellar master Johann Fourie. The range spans Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Mourvèdre and Malbec, alongside Cap Classique-method sparkling wines such as the Cuvée 58 Brut. Beyond winemaking, Benguela Cove is a wine-tourism destination with the Moody Lagoon restaurant, tastings, and ocean-side accommodation.
