Le Vent du Bonheur Concord is a light-bodied red wine from Belly Beads Winery in Shiojiri, Nagano, made from 100% Concord grapes grown across the Kikyogahara area and other vineyards throughout Shiojiri City. Vinified without oak aging, it shows a youthful pale purple color with aromas of strawberry, cherry, plum, raspberry, pomegranate, violet, and candy, balanced by gentle acidity and a dry-leaning finish. The 2024 vintage carries Nagano's GI (Geographical Indication) certification; the 2025 vintage is also available. Note: although Concord is a well-known American labrusca grape usually associated with red/purple, deep-colored juice, this specific bottling is a red wine, not a white — the winery's own product pages for both the 2024 and 2025 vintages clearly list it as red. A separate rosé bottling, 'Concord Rosé 2023', also exists in the same Le Vent du Bonheur series.
Concord is usually thought of as a table or juice grape, but Belly Beads' hands-off, oak-free vinification turns it into a genuinely drinkable, candy-and-berry-scented light red — proof that Shiojiri's heritage variety deserves a second look as a wine grape, not just a white.
New to wine?
A friendly, low-tannin introduction to Concord as a genuine red wine — light, fruity, candy-scented, and easy to enjoy lightly chilled.
Food Pairings
The winery recommends pairing with refreshing, slightly acidic dishes such as pork shabu-shabu with ponzu sauce or cucumber salad with plum dressing; the 2024 vintage's own tasting notes also suggest lightly sweet dishes. Its low-tannin, fruit-forward profile also works well chilled alongside cold shabu-shabu, karaage, or cured ham.
When to drink it
Casual weeknight dinners and everyday food pairing — especially dishes with a touch of acidity or sweetness, such as ponzu-dressed shabu-shabu.
