Ruchè

About this wine

A Monferrato Rosso DOC made from Ruchè (spelled 'Rouchet' by Scarpa), a rare, aromatic native Piedmontese variety grown on the Poderi Bricchi estate in Castel Rocchero. One of the local grape 'oddities' the house has long championed, it offers a lively, floral, wild-berry character rarely found outside its home zone.

Beginner's Note

An easy way to discover Ruchè, a grape variety most wine drinkers rarely encounter outside Piedmont — floral and juicy without heavy tannin.

Sommelier's Note

"Ruchè is one of Italy's most underrated aromatic reds, and Scarpa's Briccorosa is a benchmark example — don't let its obscurity fool you into skipping it."

Food Pairings

Its floral, berry-forward character pairs well with charcuterie, herb-roasted chicken, and lightly spiced dishes; serve slightly cool to highlight its aromatics.

When to drink it

Aperitivo, light charcuterie boards, and casual dinners featuring poultry or herbs.
