Yamabe Winery, operated by Budo no Sato Yamabe Co., Ltd., has produced wine since 2002 in the Iriyamabe district of Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture — regarded as the birthplace of grape cultivation in Nagano. Vineyards sit at 650-780m elevation below the Utsukushigahara Highlands, where wide diurnal temperature swings concentrate acidity and flavor. The winery has never used imported bulk wine or concentrated must, relying solely on Matsumoto-grown grapes, from labrusca varieties like Delaware, Niagara, and Concord to vinifera such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Gris, all bottled unblended as single-varietal wines. An on-site Italian restaurant, Mariage, and the adjoining Farmers Garden Yamabe market complete the estate.
