Founded in 1902 as the Cave Coopérative Vinicole d'Eguisheim, Wolfberger is one of Alsace's largest and most historic wine cooperatives, uniting around 450 winegrowers who together farm some 1,200 hectares of vines, with roughly 500 hectares surrounding the medieval village of Eguisheim itself. Governed by a democratic "one member, one vote" principle regardless of vineyard size, the cooperative rose to prominence in the 1970s as a pioneer of Crémant d'Alsace and today produces an estimated 6-8 million bottles of the sparkling wine each year — among the largest volumes in the appellation. Wolfberger's portfolio spans the full range of Alsace AOC wines, several Grand Cru bottlings, and eaux-de-vie, and its vineyards hold HVE Level 3 (Haute Valeur Environnementale) environmental certification alongside Agri-Confiance, ISO 9001 and ISO 22000 quality standards.
