Tenuta Sette Cieli

テヌータ・セッテ・チェーリ

High-altitude, organic Bolgheri estate led by winemaker-CEO Elena Pozzolini.

Tenuta Sette Cieli ("Seven Skies Estate") is a high-altitude estate between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci on the Tuscan coast, purchased by the Milanese Ratti family — originally silk and textile entrepreneurs from Como — in 1995 as a private retreat, with vines planted from 2001. Sitting at roughly 400 metres above sea level, well above the fertile Bolgheri plain, the estate benefits from up to 10°C cooler summer temperatures and pronounced diurnal shifts, yielding a harvest that runs up to a month later than the coastal estates below. Since 2012 the winery has been led by Ambrogio Cremona Ratti alongside winemaker and CEO Elena Pozzolini, who farms the vineyards organically and vinifies each plot and variety separately. The estate is a listed member of the Consorzio di Tutela dei vini Bolgheri (Bolgheri DOC), and focuses on Bordeaux varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec — producing wines under both Bolgheri DOC and Toscana IGT labels, including the single-varietal Cabernet Franc "Scipio" and the Malbec-led blend "Indaco".

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the name 'Sette Cieli' mean?
It means "Seven Skies" in Italian, a reference to the estate's elevated, roughly 400-metre position between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci and its sweeping panoramic views over the Tyrrhenian coast.
Who owns Tenuta Sette Cieli?
The estate has been owned by the Ratti family, Milanese entrepreneurs originally from Como who built their fortune in silk and luxury textiles, since they purchased the property in 1995. Vines were planted from 2001, and Ambrogio Cremona Ratti has led the estate since 2012.
Is Tenuta Sette Cieli part of the Bolgheri DOC?
Yes. The estate is a listed member of the Consorzio di Tutela dei vini Bolgheri (Bolgheri DOC consortium) and produces wines both under Bolgheri DOC and as Toscana IGT, drawing on vineyards planted within and adjacent to the DOC boundary.
Who is the winemaker at Tenuta Sette Cieli?
Elena Pozzolini is the estate's winemaker and CEO. She farms the vineyards organically and has described her approach as having "no recipe" — each plot and variety is vinified separately to preserve its individual character.
Why is the estate's altitude significant?
At roughly 400 metres above sea level, the vineyards run up to 10°C cooler in summer than the Bolgheri plain below, with wide diurnal temperature swings that delay harvest by up to a month and preserve acidity and freshness in the finished wines.
