Tenuta Fanti

Family-run Brunello estate in Castelnuovo dell'Abate since the 1800s
Tenuta Fanti is a historic family-owned estate in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, in the warmer southeastern sector of Montalcino, where the Fanti family has farmed since the early 1800s. Filippo Fanti transformed the property from a sharecropping farm into a dedicated winery in the early 1970s, releasing the estate's first Brunello di Montalcino in 1980. Today the estate spans roughly 200-300 hectares, including around 50 hectares of vineyards planted predominantly to Sangiovese, and is run alongside Filippo by his daughters Elisa (an agronomist who joined in 2007) and Elena. The family farms sustainably, limiting chemical inputs through practices such as green manure and mechanical weed control. Their wines are known for a traditional, elegant, and well-balanced style that channels the riper, structured character typical of southern Montalcino, and have earned high scores from Wine Spectator, including a 2001 Top 100 placement and 93-94 point ratings for recent Brunello vintages.
