Talosa
タローザ
Etruscan-origin cellar, Jacorossi family since 1972, organic since 2007.
Located beneath 16th-century palaces in the historic center of Montepulciano, Talosa (Fattoria della Talosa) is one of the appellation's most storied producers. Since 1972 the estate has been owned by the Jacorossi family of Rome, who were among the first to champion the quality potential of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and helped raise the wine's international standing. The winery's aging cellar occupies a maze of galleries first excavated as an Etruscan cave in the 5th century BC, later expanded into brick vaults during the Renaissance. Talosa farms 33 hectares of Sangiovese (locally called Prugnolo Gentile) across the Pietrose and Pieve le Grazie cru sites at 350-400 meters, on Pliocene clay-sand soils, certified organic since 2007. Meticulous parcel-by-parcel harvesting and minimal-intervention winemaking in the historic cellars produce structured, age-worthy wines that have earned recognition from Decanter, Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast, and Gambero Rosso.
