Rocca di Castagnoli is a historic estate at the heart of the Castagnoli hamlet in Gaiole in Chianti, with documented origins dating back to the year 1000 as monastic land and a formal winery established in 1730 under the noble Tempi family, whose coat of arms the estate still bears. In 1924 it became one of the founding members of the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium. Since 1981 the estate has been owned by the Calì family (Tenute Calì group), who restored the medieval fortress and hamlet and modernized the cellar. The property spans roughly 850 hectares, with about 92 hectares (227 acres) of vineyard planted between 380 and 860 meters elevation, predominantly to Sangiovese alongside native varieties such as Canaiolo, Colorino and Ciliegiolo. Rocca di Castagnoli is notable as one of the few Chianti Classico estates still developing new head-pruned (alberello) Sangiovese vineyards, and holds Equalitas sustainability certification. Its wines, including the flagship Chianti Classico and the artisanal 'Tempi' range, have earned Tre Bicchieri recognition from Gambero Rosso, Slow Wine Guide accolades and Vitae awards from the Italian Sommelier Association (AIS).
