Organic single-vineyard Sangiovese from Val d'Orcia
Poggio Grande is a family-run organic winery in Castiglione d'Orcia, in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia. Founded in 1999 by Luca Zamperini — one of the founders of the Orcia DOC — the estate is now run together with his daughter Giulitta. They farm six hectares of vineyards, four hectares of olive groves, and twenty hectares of arable land, combining Tuscan rural tradition with careful attention to matching each grape variety to its ideal soil. The flagship wine, Sesterzo, is a single-vineyard 100% Sangiovese from the estate's best plot known as "zona della Ripa," aged 12 months in oak, prized for its ripe cherry, dried plum, tobacco, and white chocolate notes with elegant, smooth tannins.
