Podere Tanagatta is a small, family-run estate on the outskirts of Montepulciano, on land where a convent dedicated to San Lorenzo once stood. Around 50 years ago, founder Biagio Allegro planted the first vines, and in the 1990s his son Diego expanded the vineyard to roughly five hectares of south-facing, clay-rich soil at about 400 meters above sea level. Officially registered as Azienda Agricola Tanagatta di Allegro Diego, the estate is a member producer of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and produces fewer than 50,000 bottles a year, alongside extra virgin olive oil from its own groves. Its flagship Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG is a traditional blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo Nero and 5% Mammolo, aged two years in Slavonian oak, alongside a Rosso di Montepulciano, a Riserva, and an IGT called Giulia.
