Family-run Carmignano estate crafting wine since 1972

Founded in 1972 by Antonio Mannelli, Podere Il Sassolo is a family-run estate in Santa Cristina a Mezzana, one of the historic crus of the Carmignano DOCG in Tuscany. The Mannelli family restored an ancient grand-ducal-era farmhouse, built a modern cellar, and replanted vineyards within a natural basin of the Montalbano hills. The 14-hectare property includes 6 hectares of vineyard and 3 hectares of olive groves, farmed sustainably at around 180 meters above sea level. Sangiovese is blended with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Canaiolo — the traditional Carmignano formula shaped by centuries of Medici-era winemaking — to produce Carmignano DOCG, Barco Reale di Carmignano DOC, and Vin Ruspo, aged in wood for up to sixteen months.
