Pelissero

ペリッセロ

Mastering the essence of Barbaresco through terroir-driven Nebbiolo.

Located in Treiso, in the heart of the Barbaresco appellation, Pelissero is a family-run estate founded by Luigi Pelissero in 1960, now run by his son, oenologist Giorgio Pelissero, as the third generation. The estate cultivates roughly 20 hectares across Treiso, Neive, Barbaresco, and Neviglie, producing 80,000-100,000 bottles a year of Barbaresco, Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba, and other Piedmontese varieties. Its flagship single-vineyard wines, Barbaresco Vanotu (named after Giorgio's grandfather Giovanni, 'Vanotu' in Piedmontese dialect) and Barbaresco Nubiola, exemplify the elegance, structure, and aging potential of the Barbaresco terroir, blending traditional Piedmontese winemaking with modern precision. Note: this estate (Giorgio Pelissero, based in Treiso) is a separate, unrelated company from 'Pasquale Pelissero', a smaller family winery based in Neive that shares only the same surname.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the significance of the 'Vanotu' vineyard?
Vanotu is a prestigious single vineyard in Treiso that produces Pelissero's flagship Barbaresco. The name derives from the Piedmontese-dialect nickname of Giovanni, grandfather of current owner Giorgio Pelissero, and the wine is known for its exceptional complexity and structure.
How does Pelissero's style differ from traditional Barbaresco?
Pelissero balances traditional Piedmontese winemaking with modern techniques to achieve greater fruit purity and refined tannins, while still expressing the classic elegance of Barbaresco.
Is Pelissero the same winery as 'Pasquale Pelissero'?
No. Pelissero (this producer, run by Giorgio Pelissero and based in Treiso) and Pasquale Pelissero (a smaller, unrelated family winery based in Neive) are two separate, independently owned companies that happen to share the same surname.
Do Pelissero wines pair well with Japanese cuisine?
Yes, their elegant Nebbiolo wines pair excellently with dishes such as grilled wagyu beef, soy-glazed duck, or mushroom-based hot pots.
