マストロヤンニ

Traditional elegance from Montalcino's southeastern corner

Founded in 1975 by lawyer Gabriele Mastrojanni, this estate is one of the benchmark producers of Brunello di Montalcino. Its vineyards lie at Poderi Loreto e San Pio in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, the southeasternmost corner of the Montalcino appellation, where the Orcia River and Mount Amiata create a distinct microclimate. Since 1992 the estate has been guided by agronomist and winemaker Andrea Machetti, who resisted the shift toward barrique aging in favor of large Slavonian oak botti, preserving the purity and mineral character of Sangiovese. Gruppo Illy (the Trieste coffee family's holding company) acquired Mastrojanni in 2008; in 2022 ownership passed personally to Francesco Illy as the family's non-coffee businesses were restructured. The estate remains true to a classic, non-interventionist style across its Brunello di Montalcino, single-vineyard Vigna Loreto, Rosso di Montalcino, and the Sangiovese-based Toscana IGT San Pio.
