Muscat Bailey A

About this wine

A dry rosé made entirely from Muscat Bailey A grapes grown at Ishikawa Grape Garden, a sun-facing hillside vineyard in Yahiko Village overlooking Mt. Yahiko, tended by a grower with over 40 years of experience who hand-thins and bags each cluster individually. Crafted in l'escargot's signature 'Kinari' (unrefined) style — stainless-steel fermentation only, unfiltered and unfined, with minimal sulphite additions — the wine channels Muscat Bailey A's naturally high juice yield and low tannin into a clean, light-bodied rosé. It has been one of l'escargot's most popular releases since its first vintage and is also offered as a furusato nozei (hometown tax) gift from Yahiko Village.

Beginner's Note

A gentle, fruit-forward rosé with just enough dryness to feel sophisticated — a friendly first step into Japanese rosé.

Sommelier's Note

"This is l'escargot's clearest proof that Muscat Bailey A can make a serious, food-friendly rosé — strawberry-scented but bone-dry, with the crisp finish that makes it disappear alongside Japanese food."

Food Pairings

The crisp acidity and clean, low-tannin texture make it an easy match for Japanese cuisine — try it with soy-simmered dishes, salt-grilled fish, or vegetable tempura, where it refreshes the palate between bites.

When to drink it

Casual dinners with friends, warm-weather gatherings, or as an aperitif before a Japanese meal.
