I Fabbri is a historic family estate in Lamole, the smallest and highest-altitude UGA of Chianti Classico, just above Greve in Chianti. The Grassi family has farmed and made wine on this land since the 1600s, originally also working as the village blacksmiths — a trade that gave the estate its name, 'I Fabbri' ('the blacksmiths'). After the vineyards fell into decline in the mid-20th century, sisters Susanna and Maddalena Grassi revived the property in 2000, converting the roughly nine hectares of vines — planted mostly to Sangiovese with small amounts of Canaiolo and Merlot — to organic farming with biodynamic practices. Susanna Grassi, now the estate's sole winemaker, is recognized as one of the pioneering women winemakers of Chianti. The vineyards climb from about 450 to 650 meters above sea level on sandy, mineral-rich soils, and the cellar favors traditional, low-intervention winemaking without temperature-controlled fermentation. The resulting wines are prized for their elegance, bright acidity, and refined tannins; the 2020 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione earned Gambero Rosso's Tre Bicchieri award in the 2026 Vini d'Italia guide.
