Guado al Melo is a family-owned and run winery in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC on the Tuscan coast, founded in 1999 by Michele Scienza and his wife Annalisa Motta. The project draws on the deep viticultural expertise of Michele's father, Professor Attilio Scienza, one of Italy's foremost authorities on grapevines. The 20-hectare estate follows a philosophy of artisanality and sustainability, treating biodiversity as a natural consequence of respecting the land rather than a marketing trend. The winery itself is entirely underground, built according to bio-architecture principles, and houses one of the world's largest wine libraries, with over 15,000 volumes collected by Attilio Scienza. The portfolio is centered on structured Bolgheri reds — Bolgheri Superiore 'Atis', and Bolgheri Rosso 'Antillo' and 'Rute' — alongside distinctive field blends and small-batch wines such as 'Jassarte', the white 'Criseo', and Vermentino 'L'Airone'.
