Fattoria Pulcino

ファットリア・プルチーノ

16th-century friary turned family Vino Nobile estate since the 1960s.

Fattoria Pulcino is a family-run estate on the outskirts of Montepulciano, along the road toward Chianciano Terme. The property began life as a 16th-century friary before being converted into a working farmhouse, and its historic underground cellar—still used today to age Vino Nobile di Montepulciano—dates from that era. The estate was established as a modern agricultural business in the early 1960s by Sergio Ercolani, affectionately nicknamed 'il Pulcino' (the Chick), and is still run by his family today. Of the estate's roughly 80 hectares, about 8 hectares are planted to vine at an elevation of around 450 meters in the hills surrounding Montepulciano, on clay-sandy soils. The vineyards are planted with Prugnolo Gentile (the local Sangiovese clone), Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo, and Ciliegiolo, producing DOCG Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and DOC Rosso di Montepulciano, alongside Chianti Colli Senesi, Bianco Vergine della Valdichiana, and Vin Santo. Vinification follows traditional methods using wooden vats, with aging in small and medium oak barrels in the 16th-century cellar. Fattoria Pulcino is a registered member of the Consorzio del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Beyond wine, the estate produces extra virgin olive oil, pecorino cheese, cured meats, honey, and jams, and operates an adjoining farm-to-table restaurant and agriturismo offering cellar tours and tastings.
