Fattoria dei Barbi is one of Montalcino's oldest and most influential estates, owned by the Colombini family, who have held land in the area since 1352 and assembled the Barbi property itself in 1790. The estate began producing Brunello di Montalcino in 1892 and was among the first wineries to export it to Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Today it spans roughly 350 hectares across Montalcino, Scansano, and Chianti, and is run by 20th-generation owner Stefano Cinelli Colombini, who pairs modern viticultural research with long-standing family tradition. Barbi was also the first Montalcino winery to open to the public, in 1949, pioneering wine tourism in the region with its on-site Taverna dei Barbi restaurant and a museum dedicated to the history of Brunello. Its flagship 'Blue Label' Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 was ranked the No. 2 wine in the world by Wine Spectator's 2022 Top 100.
