Founded in 1574 in the historic village of Riquewihr, Dopff au Moulin is one of Alsace's oldest and most storied wine estates, cultivating over 70 hectares across Riquewihr and surrounding sites. The estate is celebrated as the pioneer of Crémant d'Alsace: after witnessing a demonstration of the traditional Champagne method at the 1900 Paris Universal Exhibition, Julien Dopff began producing Alsace's first bottle-fermented sparkling wines a few years later, and in 1976 Dopff au Moulin joined five other producers in securing official AOC recognition for Crémant d'Alsace. Today the estate continues to craft a full range of Alsatian wines — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Crémant — that express the diverse terroirs of Riquewihr. Note: Dopff au Moulin is a distinct company from Dopff & Irion, another Riquewihr-based estate that also traces its roots to the Dopff family.
