Founded in 1780 in Dahlenheim, a small village in northern Alsace near Strasbourg, Domaine Mélanie Pfister is now led by Mélanie Pfister, the eighth generation of the family and its first female winemaker. After studying oenology in Bordeaux and Dijon and gaining experience at Zind-Humbrecht, Méo-Camuzet, Château Cheval Blanc, Château d'Yquem, and Craggy Range in New Zealand, she took over from her father André in 2006. The domaine farms around 10 hectares split across more than 40 tiny parcels, including the limestone-rich Silberberg and the Grand Cru Engelberg, and has been biodynamic since 2018 with organic certification since 2021 (FAIR'N GREEN certified). Mélanie favors native-yeast fermentation, blocks malolactic fermentation to preserve freshness, and ages many cuvées on their lees for extended periods, often bottling unfiltered. The estate is particularly celebrated for its Crémant d'Alsace, aged up to 36 months on lees, and its precise, terroir-driven Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
