Founded in 1824 in Barr, Alsace by Martin Klipfel and later developed by André Lorentz, Domaine Klipfel (also known as Maison Klipfel) is a historic family estate now run by the Helfrich family (Jean-Louis Lorentz and his daughters). The house farms roughly 40 hectares of vines, including about 15 hectares of Grand Cru terroir on Kirchberg de Barr, Kastelberg, and Wiebelsberg (Andlau). Klipfel is particularly celebrated for its mastery of Alsace noble varieties — Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris — and was among the pioneers, as early as 1921, of Vendanges Tardives and Sélection de Grains Nobles on its flagship Clos Zisser and Kirchberg de Barr plots. The estate combines traditional winemaking with modern precision, and was also an early adopter of Burgundian barrel-ageing for Pinot Noir.
