Founded in 1614 in Ammerschwihr on the Alsace Wine Route, Domaine Jean-Baptiste Adam is one of Alsace's oldest family estates, now led by the 14th generation, Jean-Baptiste, alongside his daughter Laure, the 15th. The founder held the historic title of "gourmet-viticulteur" — a trusted wine broker and consultant who guided restaurants to the finest vineyards of Alsace. In 2003 the domaine converted its roughly 17 hectares of estate vines (plus additional farmed parcels) to organic and biodynamic viticulture, becoming Demeter-certified and establishing itself as one of Alsace's leading biodynamic producers. The estate's flagship holding sits on the granite slopes of Kaefferkopf, the historic Ammerschwihr vineyard promoted to Alsace Grand Cru status in 2007, from which it produces structured, saline, age-worthy Rieslings and Gewurztraminers. In the cellar the approach is non-interventionist: indigenous yeasts and minimal filtration let the estate's varied granite, limestone and clay-marl terroirs speak through a range spanning Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Muscat d'Alsace, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer, as well as elegant Crémant d'Alsace sparkling wines made in the traditional method.
