Domaine Haegi is a family estate in the Alsace village of Mittelbergheim, one of France's officially designated 'most beautiful villages.' The Haegi family, bakers for generations, turned to winegrowing in 1949 when Charles Haegi settled in the village; his son Daniel, born in 1965, joined the domaine in 1985 after training in oenology and now runs the vineyard and cellar with his wife Sylvie. The estate farms around 9-10 hectares across 27 parcels in Mittelbergheim and neighboring Eichhoffen, including precious old-vine Sylvaner planted within the Zotzenberg Grand Cru, a limestone-clay slope otherwise dominated by Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Certified organic (Ecocert) since 2013, Domaine Haegi follows the guiding principle 'feed the soil so that the soil feeds the plant,' applying composted organic matter every four to six years and adapting cultivation to each parcel. The range spans the full spectrum of Alsace wines, dry Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Sylvaner and Muscat, together with Vendanges Tardives, Selection de Grains Nobles and Cremant d'Alsace, and has been repeatedly selected in the Guide Hachette des Vins.
