Domaine de Montbourgeau is a benchmark estate of the L'Étoile appellation in the Jura, founded in 1920 by Victor Gros, who planted the vineyard on its distinctive blue-marl and limestone slopes. His son Jean Gros expanded the domaine from 1956, and in 1986 Nicole Deriaux took over, modernizing the cellars and developing the estate's Vin Jaune and export markets. Since 2019, her sons César and Jean-Baptiste Deriaux have run the 11-hectare domaine as the fourth generation of the family, building a new gravity-fed underground cellar and continuing organic viticulture. The vineyard is planted mostly to Chardonnay and Savagnin, with small plots of Poulsard and Trousseau, all hand-harvested and vinified using traditional, minimal-intervention methods. The estate's L'Étoile Vin Jaune, aged under flor in 230-liter barrels for over six years without topping up, is considered one of the finest expressions of the appellation, alongside its Vin de Paille and Crémant du Jura.
