Domaine Chanson Père et Fils

ドメーヌ・シャンソン・ペール・エ・フィス

Principal owner of Corton-Vergennes Grand Cru — one of Burgundy's rarest white Grand Crus within the predominantly red Corton appellation

Founded in 1750 in Beaune, Domaine Chanson Père et Fils is one of the oldest négociant-domaines in Burgundy, headquartered in the historic Bastion de l'Oratoire — a 15th-century fortified watchtower within Beaune's old city walls, used as the estate's aging cellar since its founding. Acquired by the Bollinger family (of Champagne fame) in 1999, the estate underwent a comprehensive quality revival and has farmed all its vineyards organically since 2000. Chanson is the principal owner of Corton-Vergennes Grand Cru — a rare white Grand Cru within the predominantly red Corton appellation, shared only with a small parcel belonging to the Hospices de Beaune — making it one of only a handful of producers with white Grand Cru in Corton.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Corton-Vergennes and why is it special?
Corton-Vergennes is one of only two white Grand Crus within the Corton appellation (the other being Corton-Charlemagne). At just 3.4 hectares, the vineyard is shared between Domaine Chanson, which owns the majority, and a small parcel belonging to the Hospices de Beaune — making it a rare and tightly controlled source of a powerful, mineral-driven Chardonnay unlike any other white in Burgundy.
What is the Bastion de l'Oratoire?
The Bastion de l'Oratoire is a 15th-century fortified watchtower — one of the last surviving bastions of Beaune's medieval city walls — that Domaine Chanson has used as its aging cellar since the estate's founding in 1750. Its eight-metre-thick stone walls maintain the constant temperature and humidity ideal for maturing fine Burgundy wines.
What is Domaine Chanson's winemaking philosophy?
Chanson favors 'infusion rather than construction': whites and reds are vinified 100% whole-cluster with gentle, Champagne-style fractional pressing, then aged in barrel with no more than 20-30% new oak, preserving freshness and letting each vineyard's terroir speak for itself. All estate vineyards have been farmed organically since 2000.
