Founded in 1853 by Frédéric Boeckel in Mittelbergheim, Domaine Boeckel is a family estate now run by fifth-generation siblings Jean-Daniel and Thomas Boeckel, whose roots in the village stretch back over 400 years. The estate farms roughly 23-24 hectares of certified organic (ECOCERT) vineyards along the Alsace Route des Vins, including parcels in the Andlau, Barr and Eichhoffen area. Domaine Boeckel is best known for its holdings in the Zotzenberg Grand Cru in Mittelbergheim, the only Alsace Grand Cru site permitted to produce Sylvaner, farmed from vines over 60 years old, as well as Riesling from the Wiebelsberg Grand Cru. Wines are aged for at least 12 months in large 75-year-old oak casks (foudres), yielding pure, mineral, terroir-driven wines with a broad, food-friendly range spanning Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Crémant d'Alsace.
